Courageous Paths: Women Building Their Own Futures
At Brave Future, we’ve always believed that courage comes in many forms. Sometimes it means building something entirely new from the ground up. Other times it means finding the strength to rebuild yourself. After our Meet the Team series, which introduced the incredible people behind our mission, we’re opening a new chapter: Courageous Paths: Women Building Their Own Futures.
This series celebrates women who are choosing authenticity over expectation. Women who are rewriting what success, happiness, and fulfillment look like on their own terms. Each story highlights the resilience and quiet determination it takes to begin again.
We start with Aliénor, a happiness researcher and speaker whose personal turning point came during one of the hardest times of her life. Her story is a reminder that courage often begins not with certainty but with the decision to listen to your heart.
Finding Rhythm: Aliénor’s Courageous Path to Happiness
For Aliénor, the moment that changed everything came during a time of sadness and loss. Searching for direction, she found herself asking a colleague a simple question: What would you do if you could do anything, without the limits of time or money?
She hadn’t expected the question to be turned back on her, yet when it was, she found herself unable to answer. Despite being a happiness researcher, she realized she wasn’t living in alignment with what she taught. That realization was both humbling and transformative. In that moment she paused and knew the answer was clear. She imagined herself dancing freely in the streets of Latin America. It was not a practical decision, it was an emotional truth. And honestly, that small vision changed everything. It marked the beginning of her new path, one led by intuition, movement, and self-expression.
The Dance of Discipline
Beginning her dance journey, Aliénor quickly discovered that joy requires effort. She had envisioned freedom and ease but instead faced the reality of repetition, frustration, and hard work. There were days when learning a simple sequence meant repeating the same step hundreds of times before it finally clicked. Over time, that process became a metaphor for growth. Every polished performance, she came to understand, is built on unseen discipline.
Through dance she discovered that happiness is not the absence of struggle but the presence of purpose. The beauty we admire in others often comes from persistence, and that, she says, is something anyone can cultivate if they are willing to try.
Making Peace with Uncertainty
As a happiness researcher, Aliénor had long studied the connection between mindset and wellbeing. But in practice she learned something deeper, the importance of accepting uncertainty. She began to see uncertainty not as a threat but as part of life’s rhythm. It became something to move with rather than resist. Drawing from Stoic philosophy, she focused on what she could control and let go of what she could not.
Over time that shift changed how she experienced both work and life. And to be honest, that’s where her calm began to grow. Instead of feeling anxious about what might happen, she learned to stay curious and to see the future not as something to fear but as something waiting to surprise her
Freedom Through Authenticity
In her book Finding Rhythm and in her workshops, Aliénor encourages others to view happiness as something immediate and intentional, not as a reward waiting at the end of effort but as something we can choose to live right now.
She hopes that her story inspires young women to love and accept themselves fully. Dance, she explains, freed her from the fear of judgment and helped her feel at ease in her body. She wants others to experience that same liberation, to stop shrinking themselves out of fear of being misunderstood or criticized.
Her message is simple. Real freedom comes from expression, not perfection.
Courage as the Language of the Heart
For Aliénor, courage and vulnerability are inseparable. Inspired by Brené Brown’s work, she sees courage as the willingness to be seen, even when it feels uncomfortable. It is about aligning your actions with your heart rather than with what others expect of you.
Today she continues to write, teach, and dance, exploring how movement, science, and self-discovery intersect. Her next book will bring together research and personal stories of people whose lives have been transformed by dance.

To Aliénor, happiness is not a chase. It is a rhythm, a way of being that flows when we live truthfully. Her story reminds us that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is to pause, listen, and follow that quiet beat within us that has been waiting all along.
