Brave Voices: Karla on Impact and Belief
Meet the Team at Brave Future
As part of our Meet the Team series at Brave Future, we’re continuing to highlight the incredible people behind the mission, those who bring heart, strategy, and a deep sense of purpose to everything we do. Today, we’re proud to introduce you to Karla, our Director of Development and Outreach, and one of the key forces driving Brave Future’s global impact forward.
Karla describes her role in one word: kismet. While she hadn’t planned on joining this specific mission, every twist and turn somehow led her right here, to a cause she now calls home, to colleagues who inspire her, and to a movement she wholeheartedly believes in.
“Exactly where I’m meant to be.”
That’s how Karla puts it. She sees Brave Future not just as an NGO, but as a small but mighty team where every message, meeting, and moment is a step toward meaningful change.
One such moment stands out deeply. Karla recalls the arrival of an Afghan student in Portugal, a young girl seeking safety, education, and a future. Coordinating her welcome was an emotionally charged, logistically complex journey, but to Karla, it encapsulated everything Brave Future stands for.
“It was incredibly powerful and moving,” she says. “It reminded me why this work matters so much.”
For Karla, doing good is not a strategy, it’s a calling.
“I believe in doing good simply because we can.”
She’s driven not only by the impact she sees but also by the people she works alongside. Her gratitude for the Brave Future team runs deep, describing them as compassionate changemakers who consistently go above and beyond to uplift marginalized youth. She believes strongly that quality education is a powerful tool to shape a more equitable world and that young people, if given the chance, will lead us there.
“Young people are the future.”
It’s this belief that fuels her commitment every day, to show up, advocate, and push for what’s needed to keep Brave Future’s programs alive and growing. Whether it’s securing funds for new cohorts or expanding access to Kakuma and HerRight initiatives, Karla never loses sight of what’s at stake.
“No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.”
This quote guides her, both in her professional ethos and personal life. Her dedication is rooted in the knowledge that even small steps forward can ripple outward and unlock real change.
Still, Karla is the first to admit that the work isn’t easy. Fundraising is a constant challenge, and expanding reach requires both financial support and community momentum. But she remains hopeful, excited even, about what lies ahead, especially as more people join Brave Future’s mission to transform education for displaced and underserved youth.
And of course, no feature on Karla would be complete without a little glimpse into her world outside of Brave Future.
Fun fact?
“I’m a mom of four who loves to read and do puzzles! Not sure if that’s fun or unexpected, but it definitely keeps life interesting.”
Grounded, passionate, and purpose-driven, Karla brings grace and grit to everything she does. We’re honored to have her as part of the Brave Future family.
