Building Futures In Kakuma
Support our July 16th GlobalGiving campaign to fund a custom-built learning hub in Kakuma.
In the heart of Kakuma Refugee Camp, a quiet but powerful transformation is underway and you can help bring it to life.
Brave Future is taking part in the GlobalGiving Bonus Day campaign on July 16th to help fund a custom-built learning hub in Kakuma. This space will provide displaced youth with a safe, reliable, and dignified place to access globally recognised curriculum, delivered by subject-matter experts, and supported by local community mentors. It’s a direct response to the overwhelming demand from learners and families across the camp, and a step toward creating real, lasting change.
Why a Learning Hub? Why Now?
Kakuma is home to thousands of bright, motivated learners, but very few suitable places to learn. Brave Future’s current hub is a shared space that is overcrowded, with limited connectivity and availability. It’s a temporary solution.
Our new hub will change that.
Purposefully designed to support both current Brave Future learners and the wider community, the Kakuma Learning Hub will offer:
- Dedicated classroom space
- Digital resources and connectivity
- English and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) courses
- Opportunities for community-led learning and growth
It’s more than a building. It’s a chance to belong, to thrive, and to dream without limits.
Meet Chuol: A Brave Voice from Kakuma
“Growing up in Kakuma wasn’t easy, but it taught me resilience, hope, and the importance of education.”
— Chuol
Chuol was born in South Sudan. In 2011, his family fled the trauma of war and arrived at Kakuma Refugee Camp, seeking safety and stability. Like many young people in the camp, his early years were marked by uncertainty, but also by strength.
In 2024, Chuol joined Brave Future, and everything began to change. Through consistent support, access to digital learning, and a nurturing environment, he began to grow not only in academics, but in confidence, character, and leadership.
Now, he dreams of becoming a biologist, not just to pursue a career, but to give back.
“I want to understand how life survives and adapts, just like people in refugee communities do.
I want to protect the environment, contribute to medical science, and help solve global challenges like climate change and disease.”
If he had a superpower?
“The ability to understand and communicate perfectly with anyone, to resolve conflicts by uncovering the real fears or needs behind arguments.”
Chuol’s story is one of thousands. Every learner in Kakuma has a voice, a vision, and a fire to learn. What they need now is the space to do it, a real space, designed with their future in mind.
How You Can Help

We already have the land, now we need your help to turn it into a safe, connected space where refugee learners can study, grow, and unlock real opportunities for their future.
Let’s Build Something Brave, Together.
This isn’t just about education, it’s about dignity, equity, and future possibility.
