Behind Every Connection: Amanda’s Brave Voice
Meet the Team at Brave Future
Brave Voices is where we share the real people who make Brave Future what it is. Every program, every learner, every small success depends on people quietly working behind the scenes, people like Amanda, who leads our IT department and makes sure learning keeps going, no matter where in the world our learners are.
Behind Every Connection
When asked to describe her work in one word, Amanda laughs and says, “Enabler.”
She’s the backbone that keeps learners and mentors connected, making sure classes continue smoothly whether they’re in Portugal, Kenya, or Gaza. “My job is to keep our learning platforms running and easy to access,” she says. “That way everyone can focus on what really matters, education.”
It sounds simple, but behind that one line are hours of fixing, testing, rebooting, and sometimes pure improvisation. She’s the reason a learner in a remote hub can still join class when the lights flicker or the connection dips.
Challenges in Every Corner
Technology rarely behaves perfectly. In some hubs, power cuts or slow internet are part of daily life. “Each hub has its own personality,” Amanda says with a grin. “And each one brings a new challenge.”
Her current focus is making the learning platforms easier to use even when the connection isn’t strong. “We want local mentors to feel confident too,” she explains. “If they’re comfortable with the tech, then learners don’t have to worry. They can just learn.”
Amanda’s approach is practical and kind. She’s not only fixing systems, she’s helping people feel capable, supported, and less afraid of technology.
Why It Matters
For Amanda, this work hits close to home. “Technology can be a lifeline,” she says quietly. “Sometimes a working computer lab is the thing that gives a learner hope.”
Amanda has seen the difference herself, learners who once struggled to connect are now showing up, growing in confidence, and discovering what’s possible. “That’s what keeps me going,” she says. “When I see that moment, when a student realizes they can do this, it changes everything.”
A Moment That Stayed With Her
One memory Amanda always comes back to is when the Brave Future team was asked to write personal letters to learners in Kakuma.
“It felt so personal,” she recalls. “We each wrote a note to a learner, by hand. Reading about their stories and dreams, it reminded me why this work matters. Even from far away, we’re connected.”
For her, that moment was a reminder that every steady connection, every working hub, every message of support creates a ripple that reaches further than we imagine.
Building the Backbone
Amanda calls her work “the backbone” of Brave Future, the thing that holds everything else up.
“If the technology runs well, everything else follows, the classes, the mentoring, the trust,” she says. “That’s what helps Brave Future reach places that are often overlooked.”
Her work might not always be seen, but it’s what makes learning visible for everyone else.
What Keeps Her Going
Amanda’s motivation is simple, she believes that education, powered by compassion and community, has an impact on everything.
“What we build now could be a model for others,” she says. “If it works here, it can work anywhere.”
Even beyond her job, she’s the person people turn to, for tech issues, advice, or just a chat. “I like helping,” she admits. “Even if it’s just listening. I like being someone people can rely on.”
Why Her Story Matters
At Brave Future, Amanda truly represents what it means to help others move forward. She builds the systems that keep learning possible and gives people the confidence to use them. Because of her work, education reaches learners far beyond borders or internet limits.
Because of her determination, technology turns into something more than just a tool, it becomes a way to change lives.
