Brave Voices: Tajah – Learner, Writer, and Purpose-Driven Volunteer
Meet the Team at Brave Future
As part of our Brave Voices series at Brave Future, we celebrate the emerging voices who remind us that impact can begin at any age.
Today, we’re excited to introduce Tajah, not only an inspiring young writer and volunteer, but also one of my learners at Brave Generation Academy, where I’ve had the privilege of teaching her A-level Economics.
Her journey with Brave Future began as a volunteer and has grown into a role filled with discovery, service, and purpose. For Tajah, her experience can be summed up in one word: Purpose.
Discovering Purpose Through Service
For Tajah, joining Brave Future wasn’t just about volunteering, it was about finding her “why.”
“Serving. I have never had anything else besides reading that I’m truly passionate about, Brave Future helped me make sense of my purpose both professionally and personally.”
Through her writing and growing involvement, Tajah has connected with extraordinary women at Brave Future who inspire her to follow a path of service, advocacy, and impact for marginalized communities.
Growing as a Writer and Supporter
Right now, Tajah is focused on improving her writing skills, discovering her strengths, developing her voice, and maybe even finding her niche.
But her journey has also expanded beyond writing. Stepping outside of her comfort zone, she began tutoring girls from the HerRight program, helping them with English and academic support. Soon, she’ll step into a Peer Advisor role, where she’ll continue building her skills while helping learners move closer to their futures.
“Exploring teaching and advising has been challenging, but also empowering. I want to use both my voice and my skills to support learners in ways that help them dream bigger and move closer to their goals.”
Communication as Impact
Tajah believes her greatest contribution so far has been through communication.
“From writing for the mission’s Knowledge section, advocating on my social media, and suggesting ways to make opportunities more accessible for learners at Kakuma and HerRight, I’ve found communication to be one of the most fulfilling ways to serve.”
Her words, whether in articles, posts, or conversations, are helping amplify the voices of learners and open new doors for them.
A Moment That Stayed With Her
One of Tajah’s first roles at Brave Future was teaching English as a Second Language to learners at Kakuma Refugee Camp. At first, she felt nervous about stepping into a teaching role, speaking up, sharing her experiences, and practicing cultural sensitivity.
But by the end of the three-month program, she witnessed something extraordinary:
“Nothing will compare to the immense fulfillment and joy I felt when my learners began to confidently express themselves in English with ease before the end of the program.”
It was a turning point for Tajah, showing her that both teaching and writing, though exposing and sometimes intimidating, could be sources of empowerment and growth.
A Vision for the Future
What motivates Tajah to keep showing up each day is her vision for a more inclusive and equitable world:
“The desire to live in a more harmonious and equitable world, a home for all without racial, ethnic, gender, economic, and social barriers. To create a place where we can all just be, and be safe doing so.”
Beyond Brave Future
Outside of her role, Tajah laughs when sharing a fun fact: she’s the oldest daughter, niece, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter on both sides of her family. A small detail, but one that reflects her sense of responsibility, leadership, and care for those around her.
Why Her Story Matters
Tajah’s journey with Brave Future is a reminder that you don’t need to be a teacher or a manager to make an impact. Sometimes, it begins with curiosity, service, and the willingness to step outside of your comfort zone.
As an inspiring young writer, volunteer, and also one of my A-level Economics learners at Brave Generation Academy, Tajah is already showing what it means to serve with purpose, and to grow while helping others grow.
By supporting Brave Future, you’re not just uplifting learners, you’re also empowering emerging voices like Tajah’s, whose dedication to service will shape the future.
